I am excited to announce that on Tuesday, May 26th, The Conor Gregory Foundation made history by awarding scholarships to five members of the Hartford Boys and Girls Club program. I had the privalege to announce the scholarships in person during a suprise speech to conclude the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford’s annual Youth of the Year ceremony at the Connecticut Governor’s mansion. It was an honor to be apart of such an important program benefiting Hartford’s youth.
The scholarships, which will go towards college education, were the first ever awarded by The Conor Gregory Foundation and is a preview of the important work to be done in the future. Each of the five students were awarded for their hard work as part of the Boys and Girls Club’s Youth of the Year program, a process that involved a wide range of tasks, from writing essays to gving speeches in front of Hartford community leaders.
Woodlyn Joachin (2014 Hartford Youth of the Year Winner), along with this year’s finalists from each of the Hartford Boys and Girl’s Club branches, Keyshla Rolon (Trinity College), Khahari Mangual (Southwest), Shyheim Williams (Northwest), each received $500 scholarships. Sam Galarza-Ortiz (Aslyum Hill), winner of the 2015 Youth of the Year for Hartford, received a $2,000 scholarship.
In addition to scholarships, these recipients, along with any future recipients, will be provided with access to mentorship and other support. These scholarhips are just the beginning of our Conor Gregory Scholars program, which will provide funding and resources to kids who need our help. Expect to see more information on the scholarship program and other updates in the near future!
